07/28/2004: "Celebrating women priests as only the ECUSA can"
Got a bit of Internet time, so I thought I'd pass this along. The Episcopal Church is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the first irregular ordinations of women as priests, and the Episcopal News Service offers some ideas on how to whoop it up, including:
1) Hold a forum on ordination for the girls in your congregation. [I'm sure they'll find that fascinating.]
4) Learn the names of the 11 women ordained in Philadelphia and the four ordained in Washington D.C. before the General Convention of 1976. [Especially the ones who are so vociferously denouncing the violations of canon law they see conservatives engaging in.]
8) Use the hymn "Blessed Is She." [Blessed is who?]
12) Work to understand and dismantle patriarchy, being aware of how its oppression affects all minorities, not just women. [Does that include ex-gays?]
19) Find a way to celebrate your part in the priesthood of all believers. [Unless you're a man, in which case you are part of the evil patriarchy and ought to hide your face in shame.]
27) Decorate gingerbread cookies like women priests and serve at coffee hour. [Make a statement: eat a priest.]
